Anycubic Kobra 3 Max Combo 3D Printer

The big brother of the Kobra 3 Combo: a 420 × 420 mm bed and half a metre of height. This is for parts that fit nowhere else: a large enclosure in one piece, a long bracket, a full-size helmet. The same four-spool ACE Pro, so a big part can be multi-coloured too.

A big part takes hours or days. Check the time in the slicer before you start, and do not tie the printer up with small parts that fit the smaller Kobra next to it.

Materials

PETG is always in stock and free to use. You can bring your own filament. Put an opened spool straight into the ACE Pro: it doubles as a dryer, for your filament too. Do not load abrasive filaments with carbon or glass fibre; they wear out the standard nozzle.

How to use

1. Slice your STL or 3MF in Anycubic Slicer Next. It is installed on the Lenovo laptop next to the printers, and you can install it on your own computer.
2. Copy the file to a USB stick, they lie next to the printers, and plug it into the printer. Printing over the network is not set up yet.
3. Check that the right filament is loaded and start the file from the printer's screen.
4. Watch the first layer. On a bed this size it matters most: if an edge lifts, raise the bed temperature. If that does not help, there is a glue stick nearby; after such a print, clean the plate yourself.
5. You may leave the printer running, but it has no sensor for a part that came loose, so look in from time to time.
6. When the print is done, take the magnetic plate off, let it cool a little and flex the part off. A plate this big is easier to flex with two people or corner by corner.

Take care

• The nozzle runs at up to 300 °C and the bed at up to 90 °C. Keep your hands out while it prints.
• Clear away filament scraps and supports and put the plate back.

Access

The printer is in the hackspace room, so a plan with hackspace access is required. No induction is needed.
