Fasteners Shelf
K08A wall of labelled drawers and a few organisers beside it. Each drawer is one size:
M3 x 10 DIN 7985, M4 x 20 DIN 965 HEX, M3 NUTS and so on. The label is the contents, so
there is no guessing.
Fasteners are what every project needs once it leaves the breadboard: mounting a board in a case, building a frame, bolting down a motor, fitting standoffs.
Reading the labels
- M3, M4 — thread diameter in millimetres.
- The number after the x — screw length in millimetres, from 4 to 40.
- DIN 7985 — pan head with a cross slot, the ordinary machine screw head.
- DIN 965 — countersunk head: it sits flush in a chamfered hole.
- HEX — a hex socket for an Allen key rather than a cross slot.
Separate drawers hold nuts and self-tappers; the organisers hold washers, lock washers and the small things that have no drawer of their own.
How to use
- Find the size by its label and take what you need.
- Close the drawer and put the organiser back. A fastener in the wrong drawer is a lost fastener: nobody is going to identify it by eye among thirty drawers.
- Do not tip leftovers back at random. If you are not sure which drawer, leave them beside it and tell us.
- If a drawer is empty, say so: we restock what gets used.
Fasteners are included in your access within reason — a handful of screws for your project is what the shelf is there for.
Access
The shelf is in the hackspace room, so a plan that includes hackspace access is required. No induction is needed.
