Creworks Ultrasonic Cleaner

A bath for washing boards after soldering: flux residue, paste and fingerprints come off in a few minutes of ultrasound, including the places a brush cannot reach. The tank is filled with isopropanol; there is no need to swap it for water or anything else. Also good for small mechanical parts, printer nozzles, glasses and jewellery, if they survive alcohol.

How to use

1. Take the lid off, put the board in the basket, not on the bottom: ultrasound works worse on the bottom and scratches the tank.
2. Close the lid, set the timer to 3–5 minutes and start. For heavily fluxed boards repeat.
3. Take the board out with the tweezers or in gloves; they lie next to the bath. Shake the alcohol off over the tank, let the board dry or blow it dry.
4. Close the lid so the alcohol does not evaporate.

Take care

• Isopropanol is flammable. Do not switch the heater on with it, and do not use an iron or hot air next to the open tank.
• Do not dip your hands in the alcohol; use the tweezers or gloves.
• Do not wash things that alcohol damages: some plastics, printed markings, electrolytic capacitors with a damaged sleeve. No batteries in the tank.
• Do not run the tank empty.

Access

The cleaner is in the hackspace room, so a plan with hackspace access is required. No induction is needed.
